Why Study Design & Technology at TCU?

  • Engage in close-knit, dynamic learning with expert faculty and design classes designed for 12 students on average.
  • Specialize in one area of design while studying all aspects of design to build a strong foundation in every component.
  • Join a distinguished network of alumni working nationwide as designers, production technicians and theatre educators.

Program Overview

The BFA in Design & Technology will equip you with professional theatre production skills in areas like stage management and scenic construction. Under the mentorship of experienced design faculty, you’ll assist on faculty-designed productions and have opportunities to design Theatre TCU shows with real budgets, staff and full staging.

The BFA in Design & Technology includes:

  • A yearly jury with design and production faculty to review progress and plan further development (no cuts are made).
  • Opportunities for students to see their designs realized in two student-directed and designed productions each academic year.

  • A lighting setup primarily of ETC equipment, including Eos and Ion consoles, providing hands-on experience with industry-standard technology.
  • A range of intelligent lights, LED instruments and over 150 conventional fixtures.
  • Fully staffed scenic and costume studio, where student designers learn their craft from professional staff, including skilled artisans, teachers and mentors.

Production Crew Rotations

All BFA Theatre majors are required to serve on a production crew each semester, rotating through a variety of assignments and training opportunities.
