Student using a laptop computer

Incoming students are not required to provide a computer; however, a MacBook Pro is strongly recommended. The primary software, Adobe Creative Cloud, is available to enrolled students at a significantly reduced cost.

After completing the design foundations and qualifying examination, accepted students are expected to have a personal laptop that meets the department’s computer policy to ensure success in studio and design courses. Please review the requirements for your intended major.

Design Studies

Students must provide a PC laptop with system specifications, software requirements and program policies updated annually in late spring. Required software packages, including licensed CAD, BIM, 3D modeling, and presentation and productivity software, should be purchased after acceptance into the program and successful completion of the first-year Qualifying Examination.

Graphic Design

Graphic Design majors are not required to provide a computer. However, we recommend a Macintosh MacBook Pro. The primary software used in Graphic Design includes Adobe Creative Suite. Once enrolled, students can subscribe for a significant reduction in cost.

Interior Design

The software used by the interior design industry is PC-based. Upon successful passage of the Interior Design Portfolio Review at the end of the first-year in the program, Interior Design majors are required to purchase a PC laptop based upon specifications updated annually by the program.
